Common Questions

I have just purchased some bedding plants for hanging baskets, which compost do I use?

Most multi-purpose composts will be suitable for hanging baskets as well as patio tubs.

How do I look after my hanging baskets?

Water them in the morning and again in the evening. Soluble fertiliser should be used once a week.

My lawn looks yellow, how to do fix it?

Use a lawn fertiliser around once a month unless the product you use has a different application rate. You might have to use weed, feed and mosskiller if your lawn requires it.

How often do I cut my grass?

This should be done once a week but don't cut it too short as this promotes moss and weeds to grow. Your lawn needs water as well if the weather is too hot.

Weeds are taking over my garden, how do I get rid of them?

If in between plants, the best solution is to hoe them out with a dutch hoe. Alternatively, if they are on paths and drives or any hard surface, then a weedkiller should be applied. Weedkillers work best when applied at the correct dosage and the correct time of day.

Slugs are eating my plants, how do I get rid of them?

There is no easy answer other than using slug pellets or traps. There are slug repellents available too.

Bugs are eating my plants, what do I do to get rid of them?

It's all about using an insecticide at the correct dosage and correct time; most are easy to use and work very well.

My plants in the greehouse have a grey mould on them, how do I treat this?

There a few solutions to this problem. Use a contact fungicide at the dosage required or it might be a ventilation problem; when the glasshouse is too hot and you water too much you have to keep the air flowing through the glasshouse as this is one cause of the grey mould forming.

There is no fruit on my plants, how do I get them to fruit?

Using the correct fertiliser is the key, a higher potash fertiliser would promote plants to fruit. High nitrogen is an early feed and a balanced feed if for normal growing conditions.
