Description

A lightweight peat and vermiculite compost with essential plant foods and trace elements for healthy growth.

Seed sowing
Fill tray or pot with compost, add water with a fine rose. Sow seeds evenly and over with a think layer of compost (very small seeds should not be covered). Cover with a sheet of glass or polythene to retain moisture. Keep in the shade until germination occurs then bring in to full daylight avoiding direct sunlight, prick out the seedlings when they are large enough to handle.

Pricking out
Fill container as above but do not water. Holding by leaves only, carefully separate and lift seedlings and plant into holes made by a dibber or pencil. Firm down and water thoroughly, leave in the shade for 2/3 days and do not allow to dry out.

Rooting cuttings
Fill a container as above but do not water. Prepare cuttings and insert around rim of the container. Water thoroughly. Maintain humidity by covering with plastic dome or clear poly bag which should be ventilated with a few air holes, pot on when a root system has developed.

Potting seedlings and rooted cuttings
Before potting, water plants thoroughly and then place in individual pots, top up with compost, taking care not to damage roots. Gently firm down and water with a fine rose.

Re-potting
Re-pot only in the growing season. Water the plant, allow to drain. Fill new pot with compost leaving space for the root ball. Insert plant and fill in around it with new compost. Water well and do not allow to dry out.

Feeding
Keith Singleton's compost contains adequate plant food for 4-6 weeks growth after potting. Feed every 7-14 days thereafter with a proprietary liquid plant food during the growing season.
